As a divergent approach in contemporary corrections, a concept is proposed in this article, which is founded on historical jurisprudence and contemporary research in behavioural science and criminal justice. The concept of correctional restitution, the author says, has a stronger basis realistically, historically, logically, and empirically than do much of contemporary corrections. Claims are not made for its success in reducing crime. However, it is a viable and valuable alternative concept that fits well in the contemporary processes of criminal jurisprudence.
