Restorative justice is back on the agenda. The proposed legislative, policy and institutional reforms that are being proposed provide a unique opportunity to re-think about our approach to crime and anti-social behaviour. Therefore, IARS' long and internationally recognised expertise and work in restorative justice is now being strengthened with new projects and areas of work.

Since its inception, IARS has been carrying out independent, international research in the area of restorative justice focusing on areas such as youth violence, hate crimes, sexual offending, prisons and the juvenile secure estate. IARS is also pleased to announce that its two year EU funded research on restorative justice and the juvenile secure estate has been completed and a ground breaking report is about to be released. A conference is being organised to launch the report and we would like to hear from anyone interest in delivering it in partnership. The UK project forms part of the larger European Mediation and Restorative Justice in Prisons Project (MEREPS).

In the meantime, IARS is taking forward its newly acquired EU funded project the "3E Model for a Restorative Justice Strategy in Europe" led by Aristotle University, Greece. Ben Lyon, IARS' Restorative Justice Project Coordinator will work closely with Dr. Theo Gavrielides to deliver this exciting project for the UK and Europe.

Our project on "Clergy Child Sexual Abuse and Restorative Justice" is also being taken forward in partnership with US and Irish based NGOs and universities.

Finally, Gavrielides' edition "Rights and Restorative within Youth Justice", an edited, international Volume with contributions from the leading human rights and restorative justice experts in the world is in development and due to be published soon.
